The World Cup will be hosted in Brazil in 2014!

The writer and poet Paulo Coelho said that football was such a part of Brazilian culture that people spent more time discussing matches than their sex lives.

"I have heard people discussing a match for five hours, I have never heard anyone talk about their sexual relationships for five hours," he said, adding that the World Cup will ignite an emotional response in all Brazilians."

Fighting the one you love

The warrior of the light sometimes fights the one he loves.
He has learned that silence means the absolute balance of the body, spirit and soul. The man who preserves his unity will never be dominated by the storms of existence; he has the strength to overcome the difficulties and move forwards.
However, he often feels challenged by those whom he teaches the sword. His disciples call him to combat.
And the warrior shows his capability: with a few blows, he throws down the students' weapons, and the harmony returns to the place where they are gathered.
Why do that, if you are so superior? asks a traveler.
Because, in this way, I keep open a dialogue, answers the warrior.

Today's Answer by Paulo Coelho

Question: Your novel The Alchemist, which came into being in the space of two weeks, is one of the most amazing sales successes in literary history. How long did it take you to write your novel Eleven minutes which will appear in the coming weeks?

Answer: Three weeks. After ten years I wanted to once again write about sexuality but I had neither a workable story nor main character. Therefore, several attempts failed. At a book signing session in Geneva a Brazilian woman said to me: “I have read The Alchemist. Your book changed my life because I decided to move to Europe.” As I thanked her, she interrupted me: “I became a high-class prostitute here.” Then, out of curiosity, I met with her several times. Around sixty per cent of my book is based on her life story.

Warrior of The Light : Everything moves

Everything moves.

And everything moves to a rhythm.

And everything that moves produces a sound; that is happening here and all over the world at this very moment. Our ancestors noticed the same thing when they tried to escape from the cold in their caves: things moved and made noise.

The first human beings perhaps looked on this with awe, and then with devotion: they understood that this was the way that a Superior Being communicated with them. They began to imitate the noises and movements around them, hoping to communicate with this Being: and dancing and music were born.

When we dance, we are free.

To put it better, our spirit can travel through the universe, while our body follows a rhythm that is not part of the routine. In this way, we can laugh at our sufferings large or small, and deliver ourselves to a new experience without any fear. While prayer and meditation take us to the sacred through silence and inner pondering, in dance we celebrate with others a kind of collective trance.

The right time

A warrior of the light is never rushed. Time works in his favor; he learns to dominate impatience, and avoid unplanned actions.
Walking slowly, he notes the firmness of his steps. He knows that he takes part in a decisive moment in the history of humanity, and must change himself before changing the world. This is why he recalls the words of Lanza del Vasto: a revolution takes time to take hold;.
A warrior of the light never picks fruit before it is ripe.

Brazilian Writer Pledges to Promote Understanding among Peoples

World renowned Brazilian author, Paulo Coelho, has said that artists around the world should mobilize themselves to help promote understanding among peoples of different cultures and religions.

The Brazilian writer, who is one of four messengers of peace appointed by the United Nations Secretary-General last month, said people are fighting in the name of God instead of understanding that cultures and all religions lead to the same light. Mr. Coelho told UN Radio that his works can contribute to promote understanding among people.

"I think that now I can do something as a kind of bridge because my books, they are read in Iran, they are read in Israel. They are read in the Arabic countries. They're read in Norway. So somehow the stories have the same power as a gun."

Paulo Coelho, the author of the bestseller "The Alchemist" founded his Paulo Coelho Institute with his wife to help underprivileged members of Brazilian society.

Warrior Of Light Issue n°157 : Fragments of a non-existing diary

I finally manage to get my editor, Masao Masuda, to invite me to a traditional tea ceremony. We go to a mountain near Hakone, enter a small room, and his sister, dressed in the ritual kimono, serves us tea.
That is all. However, everything is done with such seriousness and protocol that a daily practice is changed into a moment of communion with the Universe.
The tea master, Okakusa Kasuko, explains what happens: “The ceremony is the adoration of the beautiful. All efforts are concentrated on the endeavor to attain Perfection through the imperfect gestures of daily life. All its beauty consists of respecting the simple things we do, because they can lead us to God.”

Today's Answer by Paulo Coelho

Question: What is important?

Paulo Coelho : You never know. You can only unravel it during the journey. It all starts with a sign that takes you from a point to the next. Or makes you think about an action you’re about to take.

Who are we?

"How do we find the courage to always be true to ourselves - even if we are unsure of who we are?" (from The Witch of Portobello)

This is so relevant for our generation. More than ever, we are not sure who we are, or even who we should be. Paulo Coelho invites us to a much-needed journey of self assessment into our soul.

Today's Answer by Paulo Coelho

Question: You dedicated your book The Witch of Portobello to S.F.X. Who is he?

Paulo Coelho: A man that left everything to go after his dream, in a very young age. Well, I took much longer to follow my dream. I was nearly 40 when I decided to be guided by my dream. I had the courage once I made the pilgrimage to Saint James of Compostella.
